Talk N’ Text repelled Brgy. Ginebra’s repeated rallies to hang on to a 104-92 victory and more importantly clinched the top seeding in the last game day of the PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations at the Alonte Sports Center in Binan, Laguna.
Protecting a huge 87-66 lead early in the payoff period, TNT saw their big advantage trimmed to just 10 as Ginebra import Justin Brownlee went supernova – scoring 18 of his 34 points in the stretch – but Castro took over down the wire.
The former Gilas guard sank a cold-blooded trey in the last two minutes to extend the lead to 98-85 which pretty much sealed the game.
Ka-Tropa import Mychal Ammons pounced a double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds while Castro continued his playmaking brilliance issuing 10 dimes to go along with 19 markers.
TNT will face the winner of the Phoenix-Rain or Shine playoff match.
Meanwhile, with the loss, Ginebra slid down to 8-3 – good enough for the third spot and a grueling quarterfinal series with rival Alaska which finished at 6th seed.
Both TNT and Ginebra will have a twice-to-beat incentive going into the playoffs, along with second seed San Miguel.
Meralco and Mahindra will face each other for the no.4 spot on Wednesday. – By John Bryan Ulanday
