Sol Mercado isn’t all too concerned with the hype surrounding Barangay Ginebra’s resurgence in the PBA Governors Cup.
Instead, the stocky guard said the Kings are more focused on creating good habits as they head to the playoffs.
“Coach Tim (Cone) always preaches to us to just play the same and create a habit of playing well,” Mercado told FOX Sports on Saturday.
Ginebra has been on a tear as of late, having its last four games en route to an 8-2 record to run second behind league leader TNT, which totes a 9-1 card.
The Kings can actually grab the no.1 seed entering the playoffs with a win against the Katropa on Sunday, 6:45 p.m. in Binan, Laguna.
Both teams though are already assured of twice-to-beat incentives heading to the quarterfinals.
The six-foot Ginebra guard said they have no intention of taking things easy, stressing the need to keep the intensity high and play according to the hybrid offense being employed by Cone at Ginebra.
“Definitely it’s a huge challenge playing against TNT. There’s a reason they they (Katropa) are the no.1 team right,” said Mercado, who is averaging 12.20 points, 4.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds in over 29 minutes of play this conference.
“But we will just face the challenge head on and try to improve on our game.” – Richard Dy
