Dawn Ochea sinks game-winner as Adamson snaps skid v Ateneo

Dawn Ochea sank a turnaround jumper with 1.9 seconds left to lift Adamson to a pulsating 62-61 victory over Ateneo in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Trailing big in the final canto, the Soaring Falcons came back fighting behind Rob Manalang and Papi Sarr and finally tied the game at 60-all.

Chib Ikeh split his charities to push the Blue Eagles back up, 61-60, setting the stage for Ochea’s heroics.

Sent in by coach Franz Pumaren precisely for that fateful play, the Cebu native caught the ball, turned around and drained a shot over the outstretched arms of Vince Tolentino to send the Adamson fans into a frenzy.

Thirdy Ravena had the chance to win the game for Ateneo but his shot clanged off the rim as time expired.

The Falcons’ win, their second in 3 games this season, is their first against the Eagles since Season 74.

The shifty Manalang led all scorers with 15 points, Sarr had 13 points and 16 rebounds and Jerrick Ahanmisi delivered 13 markers on just 6 shots for Adamson, who moved to 2-1.

On the other hand, Anton Asistio posted 12 points for Ateneo, but needed 13 shots.
