As Rain or Shine tries to keep its playoff hopes afloat, head coach Yeng Guiao expects Paul Lee and Jeff Chan to shake off their rusty showing and man up on their campaign-defining game against also-ran Star on Friday.
Guiao expressed his disappointment over his two veteran gunners in their previous outing against San Miguel after combining for just three points.
“Very unusual na pareho silang off nung game na yun (against San Miguel). It doesn’t happen often, and I don’t expect it to happen in our game against Star,” the Elasto Painters coach to FOX Sports on Thursday.
Over their six-day break, the fiery mentor shared he already talked with Lee and Chan, alongside big man Beau Belga, to address their dwindling production while reminding them of their leadership role on the team.
“Yung leadership (on court) yung pinaka pinag-usapan namin,” said Guiao.
Rain or Shine also took advantage of the break to familiarize with new import Josh Dollard in the hopes of keep their playoff chance alive and kicking.
Still, the ex-Pampanga representative doesn’t want to take the Hotshots for granted in their last assignment in the eliminations.
“Understanding Star has nothing to lose, mas mahirap kalaban yun. We’re weary and mindful of that situation,” he said.
But Guiao remains confident that his wards have the capacity to catch the playoff bus, something they have achieved for the last 13 conferences.
“We just need to play better tomorrow, we had not lost hope. We feel na yung team kayang magbalik in this situation, it would be our old selves.” – Jason Mercene
