ANTIPOLO– GlobalPort closed its PBA Governors Cup campaign on a winning note after smothering the woeful Blackwater side, 139-126 in a high-scoring contest on Wednesday at the Ynares Center.
Veteran guard Joseph Yeo led the Batang Pier’s blitz, banging in 37 points, falling one point short of his PBA career high 38, which he tallied on November 19, 2008 in Sta. Lucia Realty’s 109-95 win over San Miguel.
Nicknamed the “Ninja”, Yeo’s scoring outburst was spiked by a career-best nine three-point shots, while adding six assists and four rebounds for Batang Pier, who ended the conference with a 4-7 record.
The 139 points stood as the highest output ever scored by GlobalPort in franchise history. Blackwater’s 126 points is also the highest in franchise history.
Import Mike Glover proved unstoppable as he finished with 34 points, 18 rebounds and three assists.
Terrence Romeo flirted with a double-double, chipping in 28 points and nine assists, while adding six boards.
Blackwater continued its slide after losing its eighth straight game to remain at the cellar with its 1-9 record.
Keala King led the Elite with 28 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, while seldom-used playmaker Roi Sumang came off the bench to add 22.
Rookie forward Art Dela Cruz finished with a double-double of 21 points and 11 boards. – John Bryan Ulanday
