Guiao gambles with Dollard as ROS faces tough SMB in crucial tiff

After three days of practice, Rain or Shine decided to gamble with former Barako Bull import Josh Dollard in the Elasto Painters’ last-ditch effort to make the PBA Governors Cup playoffs.

“We’re trying our luck with Dollard. Nakita namin sa practice na mas maganda blending niya sa amin sa  court,” Guiao told FOX Sports on the eve of his team’s collision with defending champion San Miguel Beer.

At 4-5, the Elasto Painters are teetering in the brink of elimination, though the entry of the 6-foot-4 Dollard, their fourth import this conference, is a welcome change.

“We’re looking for an import talaga na will blend well with our locals,” he said, noting they already notified Jason Forte about their final decision.

The wide-bodied Forte lasted just two games in his fourth PBA tour of duty, having played for Air21 in 2010, along with back-to-back stints with Alaska in 2011 and 2012.

With the former Auburn University standout, the fiery Rain or Shine mentor believes they have an import who could provide the firepower they needed inside and outside in their bid to upstage the stacked up Beermen on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 30-year-old Dollard led all imports in scoring with a 32.56 points per game average during the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup while playing for Barako Bull. – Jason Mercene
