Heavy rain may have poured outside the FilOil Flying V Arena, but it won’t stop Ginebra receiving downpour of positive energy in their Governors’ Cup campaign.
While thousand of fans had the chance to interact with the Gin Kings, the rare open to public team practice also paved the way for big man Greg Slaughter to have his first full practice since recovering from an ankle injury.
“We got Greg up and down the floor, that’s actually the first time has been in an active scrimmage and we got him in transition drills,” said Cone.
Limited to only half court work the past week, ‘Gregzilla’ looked in tip-top shape running with his teammates, even asserting already his defensive presence on some of the scrimmage sequences.
The former Ateneo slotman also engaged with fans actively cheering for him after their morning practice.
Slaughter is set to return for Ginebra on their game against Mahindra this coming Friday and having him back this early is a welcoming sign for Cone as they gun for a guaranteed top 4 finish.
“We want Greg to get an opportunity to get up on the floor, that’s important for us,” he said.
But while they welcome Slaughter back in the fold, athletic wingman Chris Ellis will continue to ride the sick bay as he is still recovering from a groin pull.
“He is allowed no activity right know, and we’ll monitor him week by week,” disclosed Cone. – By Jason Mercene
