Jerrick Ahanmisi dazzled from beyond the arc while his Adamson teammates also made it rain as the Soaring Falcons dismantled UP, 102-83, in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ahanmisi set a record of most points by a rookie in his debut with 28 points for coach Franz Pumaren, who made his much-awaited return to the collegiate sidelines with aplomb.
The Fighting Maroons battled hard in the first 2 quarters before Ahanmisi put on a show in the third with 13 points as they built a 71-52 advantage late in the period.
Never giving up, UP persevered and cut the deficit to 6 with a little over 3 minutes remaining.
But the Falcons delivered the finishing blows as Robbie Manalang, Dawn Ochea and Terrence Mustre teamed up in hammering the final nail on the Diliman squad’s coffin.
Manalang had 16 points and 9 assists while Ochea and import Papi Sarr combined for 26 points and 15 rebounds.
On the other hand, Paul Desiderio typified the Maroons’ relentless approach with 24 points on 22 shots even as Jet Manuel and Dave Moralde posted 15 and 12 markers, respectively.
