Blackwater added young wingman Ronald Pascual to its fold after dealing veteran playmaker Mike Cortez to GlobalPort in a trade that was approved by the Office of the Commissioner on Thursday.
The Elite’s alternate governor Wilbert Loa said Pascual will give the team the much-needed outside shooter, who could come off the bench to spell sharp-shooting forward Reil Cervantes.
“Kailangan din ng team talaga ng shooter so we got Ronald Pascual. Tingin namin magandang trade na yun dahil nakuha naman nila si Mike Cortez,” Loa told FOX Sports.
The 6-foot-2 Pascual only played two games for the Elite since coming off an injury during the conference break.
The third overall pick in the 2014 PBA Draft has yet to experience a breakthrough in his pro career since being selected by San Miguel Beer.
Meantime, Cortez, the league’s top rookie pick in 2003, could add backcourt depth to the Batang Pier that includes the high-scoring duo of Stanley Pringle and Terrence Romeo and young backup playmaker in Jerick Fortuna.
The six-foot guard out of La Salle averaged 9.93 points, 4.67 assists and 3.67 rebounds in 27 games for the Elite this season.
