San Miguel versatile forward Arwind Santos flashed a glimpse of his old brilliance but he stressed he has yet to reach peak form entering the crucial stretch of the Governors’ Cup eliminations.
Unleashing his finest performance since returning from knee injury, the 6-foot-4 Santos scattered of 9 of his personal conference-best 19 points in the final canto to frustrate Meralco on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
“Ginagawa ko lang yung part na pinagkakatiwalaan pa rin ako ng teammates ko, ng coaches,” said Santos. “For myself, kailangan lang ibigay yung mga ineexpect nila, yun lang ako.”The former King Tamaraw was just second in the local scoring production behind big man June Mar Fajardo, who put up 24.
But asked if he’s already at 100% since recovering from his injury, he answered: “Di pa.”
Still looking to push the Beermen to a top 2 finish, Santos is wary of their last three foes, whom he believes are all capable of derailing their bid.
“Pare-pareho ang standing, di pa namin masecure yung 1-2 position tsaka lahat ng kalaban namin mabibigat kaya yung kumpiyansa na matatalo namin yung mga makakalaban namin, di namin masasabi yun,” he said.
And the veteran that he is, Santos knows for a fact that it will get trickier for the Beermen from here on up to the quarterfinal round, especially that they are still adjusting with replacement import Mike Singletary.
“Prepare ulit kasi habang tumatagal yung liga, mas lalong dumidiin, lalong bumibigat so kailangan mag-improve,” he closed. – By Jason Mercene
