After a roller-coaster performance in the first seven games of the PBA Governors Cup, Rain or Shine decided to switch import, parting ways with Dior Lowhorn and bringing in former Colorado State standout Greg Smith.
Guiao felt the import change was necessary at this point, considering that they couldn’t seem to get the spark they needed from the wide-bodied Lowhorn, who is in his third PBA tour of duty.
With Smith, who is expected to make it within the 6-5 import height limit, the Elasto Painters have someone who can score inside and outside, is athletic and can run up and down the floor.
“I just saw him in practice today and ang first impression ko, mukha namang mabait, mataas naman ang basketball IQ and he can give us the quickness that we want because he wants to run up and down the court,” Guiao told FOX Sports on Tuesday.
The fiery Rain or Shine mentor said the 25-year-old Smith is in game shape since he’s coming off a stint with Fuerza Regia in the Mexican pro league.
The American forward has also played in Brazil, Israel, Latvia and Argentina.
“We’re hoping it’s in the import and malalaman naman natin yan kasi dalawang magkasunud na laro naman kami,” said Guiao.
