PBA legends Atoy Co, Allan Caidic, Alvin Patrimonio and league commissioner Chito Narvasa will lead the pro league’s special tribute on Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan dubbed, “Final Buzzer”.
Dalupan, 92, passed away early Thursday.
The special rite will be held on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, just before the main game featuring Barangay Ginebra and Rain or Shine.
Co played under Dalupan at Crispa, where they won multiple league championships, including the PBA Grand Slam in 1976.
Also known as the “Fortune Cookie”, Co, now the head coach of Mapua, was briefly reunited with the legendary basketball coach at Great Taste in the late 1980s.
On the other hand, Caidic played for the “Maestro” and won a championship with him during his rookie season in 1987.
Patrimonio, meantime, briefly played under the well-respected Philippine coach at Purefoods, winning a championship with Dalupan in the 1990 Third Conference, the latter’s 15th and last in the PBA.
Narvasa also saw action under Dalupan in the late 1970’s while with Ateneo in the NCAA. – John Bryan Ulanday
