Sophomore guard Kevin Alas felt NLEX’s current two-game winning streak is just what the team needed to regain its composure after enduring an “internal conflict” recently.
Coming off a game-winning steal on Mahindra import James White on Wednesday, Alas, together with high-scoring Henry Walker, led the Road Warriors to an 82-81 win to improve to 3-3 overall.
But more than the win, the former Letran Knight believes it could finally erase the doubts the team had after losing three straight games early in the PBA Governors Cup.
“Yes, kasi we’re struggling kasi nag-three-game losing skid kami. Medyo marami ng issue lumabas sa team,” Alas said when asked if their Wednesday game was a must-win for the Road Warriors.
Alas, who finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals, said he just focused on the positives on their losses to help him focus during practice.
“Pinipilit ko yung sarili ko na maging positive sa practice, and encourage some of my teammates kasi may mga doubts na nga. Tapos kung makisali pa ako, baka mag-rub off sa lahat,” he said.
The six-foot Alas has high hopes that the current two-game winning streak will help the team mentally as it prepares for sister team Meralco next week.
“Sabi lang namin one game at a time, we have to prepare for Meralco,” he said. – Jason Mercene
