Meralco back on winning track, zaps injury-plagued Blackwater

Meralco got back on the winning track as it plastered a banged-up Blackwater, 105-90 in the PBA Governors Cup Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Bolts, who improved to 4-3, collected another monster effort from import Allen Durham, who flirted with a triple-double after finishing with 30 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists.

“My experience over the years coaching made me a little worried about this game because Blackwater played very, very well,” said Meralco coach Norman Black after the game.

“You have to give credit to Blackwater for coming out and playing hard and play tough.”

Meralco is coming off a painful 126-123 double-overtime loss to GlobalPort on Sunday, but had the character to bounce back against a Blackwater team that is missing several key players.

Blackwater played without American import Eric Dawson due to back spasm, while starting center John Paul Erram is gone for the season due to an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear on his right knee.

Playmaker Mike Cortez also sat out the game against his former team due to calf muscle strain.

Rookie Art Dela Cruz led the Elite with 23 points, Carlo Lastimosa added 16.

The Elite, who absorbed their fourth straight loss, dropped at the cellar with their anemic 1-5 record. John Bryan Ulanday
