Veteran playmaker Jonas Villanueva bared he sustained a left ankle injury that forced him to miss the dying minutes of NLEX’s thrilling 82-81 win against Mahindra Enforcers on Wednesday.
The six-foot Villanueva limped out of the game, assisted by 2 members of NLEX’s ultility team during the Road Warriors’ grind-out win.
“Sprain, pag-hop step ko, na-twist,” said the former Far Eastern University guard, who was replaced by pint-sized playmaker Eman Monfort in the last 2:05 minutes of the game.
Good thing sophomore guard Kevin Alas joined hands with American import Henry Walker in leading NLEX past Mahindra.
Alas preserved Walker’s second-half explosion, by completing a steal off Mahindra import James White to secure NLEX’s third win in six starts.
Villanueva has enough time to rest and recover since NLEX won’t be back in action till next Wednesday against sister team Meralco.
“Medyo maga, tsaka masakit, ewan ko kung kaya one week kasi Wednesday naman next game namin,” he said as he slowly headed to the parking lot of the Smart Araneta Coliseum. – Jason Mercene
