Getting the golden opportunity to play in the PBA, TNT Ka-tropa newly-signed guard Kris Rosales relishes the chance of competing against idol Jimmy Alapag while teaming up with veteran Jayson Castro.
After being left out of by the now-defunct Barako Bull in the draft, Rosales had to take a tougher route to the league but it was all worth it now after sharing the court with the two of the current best guards in the Philippines.
“As a Fil-Am, he’s one of the guys you look up to,” said Rosales of going up against Alapag. “He came from California, I’m from California, back home all I hear is Jimmy. Jimmy is the guy.”
Rosales, though, had the last laugh against his idol in their initial encounter as he and Castro conspired at crunchtime to push TNT past Meralco, 98-95, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
Playing a total of 21 minutes, the former ABL star scored 13 points in his second game, complementing Castro in the backcourt –enough to earn TNT head coach’s Jong Uichico’s praise
“Kris is so-far, these past two games, a good reliever to Jayson, he does his role, he doesn’t do anything fancy. Just play the game and defend,” said Uichico.
For his part, Rosales shared that he is cherishing to pick the mind of 2-time Asia’s best point guard, among others, while still getting the feel of the game.
“I’m playing behind Jayson so I think I can learn a lot from him and with all the veterans in the team,” he said.
“I have to adjust to the real games and now I’m 2 games in, I feel I got a lot more experience especially now down the stretch,” he added. – By Jason Mercene
