Davon Potts puts on a show in front of friends

San Beda Red Lion Davon Potts drew inspiration from familiar faces in the gallery.

Ryan Reyes of the TNT Ka-Tropa and Gabe Norwood of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters came to support their fellow Fil-Am during the NCAA Season 92 men seniors basketball tourney’s most-anticipated match between the San Beda Red Lions and Arellano University Chiefs Friday Night in San Juan.

“I came from the same area as Davon Potts. He invited us to the game so I came here to watch the game,” Reyes revealed to Fox Sports PH after San Beda served a comeback win against Arellano, 101-86.

Both Reyes and Potts traced their hometown all the way from Cerrito, California, USA.

And Reyes said he was just out to instill some company and neighborhood to the San Beda gunner.

“I am proud for him and I wish him the best for the rest of the conference. Seeing him play like this, I’m just happy for him,” the Gilas 4.0 member added.

Norwood, on the other hand, admitted he’s been observing the collegiate basketball ever since but a busy schedule is keeping him away from watching it live.“It’s been a while since the last time I’ve watched an NCAA game.”

“And Davon Potts. I’ve got to know him pretty well in past couple of months so he invited me out so I came out and support,” he said.

But it’s not only because of Potts, said Norwood, who also came to watch the Gilas Cadet Jio Jalalon.

“On the other side, for Jio. He practiced with us in the Gilas Cadets. It’s a great game, two of the best teams in the league. Definitely exciting!”

Potts got pumped up by the presence of his basketball brothers as he erupted for 31 points, 11 in the final canto to cap their epic run from a 22-point deficit agains Jalalon-led Arellano squad.

“Those are my brothers. A lot of people don’t know but I’m friend with Gabe, with Ryan, with Jimmy. They are a family to me,” the California homegrown said.

But at the end of the day, it’s not about me but about San Beda,” he concluded. “Im really proud that I put on a performance the way I did but like I said, it’s for the team, I am a team player and this is a team win.’

Jalalon, on the other hand, delivered a solid performance of 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in Arellano’s loss. – By John Bryan Ulanday
