Jeff Napa after punching 1st NCAA win: Hindi puwedeng i-take for granted ang EAC

Letran Knights needed to drop all of the trump cards out of their sleeves to escape away with a victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Tuesday.

It was a hard-earned win and Coach Jeff Napa was quick to admit that.

“Hindi pwedeng i-take for granted ang EAC,” he insisted after their 76-72 victory.

True enough, EAC simply did not bow out of the fight that easy.

The coach Ariel Sison-led Generals trailed by 11 points in the fourth quarter but turned around the ball game and even had a chance to steal it away from Letran. And even though they failed to cap an epic comeback, it was enough to threaten Napa, who later warned the other teams of the Taft-based squad.

“Pag kalaban nila ang EAC. Maghanda sila,” warned the Knigts coach, who needed 33 points from his star Rey Nambatac to put away the gritty Generals.

EAC surprised Lyceum last Sunday with a 64-57 victory and had an opportunity to jump on a 2-0 early lead in the team standings.

Napa was caught on fire in the dying minutes after seeing his team squandered their lead.

“Kailangan muna yata nila magalit ako. Pero alam naman nila once na nagalit ako, may problema. Especially on defense,” he emphasized.

And he hopes that they won’t make the same mistake heading into their game against the College of Saint. Benilde Blazers on Friday.

“Next game namin St. Benilde. Again, di pwedeng i-take for granted. Maghanda kami nang maganda para at least, ma-execute namin kung ano yung game plan namin. Kasi itong 4th quarter, medyo bumitaw kami sa game plan, sa gusto namin gawin. So yun yung kailangan naming practice-in,” Napa said. – By John Bryan Ulanday
