Tropang TNT’s incoming import Mario Little may not be in the mold of NBA veteran Jason Maxiell. But team manager Virgil Villavincencio is confident the former Kansan standout’s athleticism will augur well for the team’s PBA Governors Cup campaign.
The 28-year-old Little arrived in Manila early Sunday morning from Chicago and hours later, took time to shoot hoops at the team’s practice facility at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center in Quezon City.
Listed at 6-6, Villavicencio said their new reinforcement could easily fit in the 6-5 height limit this time. He is coming in to replace Maxiell, the former Detroit Piston forward, who went beyond the height limit a week ago.
“Hindi na siguro (lalagpas sa height limit). Mas manipis siya pero masigasig saka nakapunta na siya dati dito kasama si (Tyler) Wilkerson (San Miguel’s Commissioner’s Cup import),” Villavicencio told FOX Sports on Monday.
Though undrafted in the NBA, the amiable TNT official said Little will be bringing in versatility to the Tropa, who are out to redeem themselves after failing to defend their Commissioner’s Cup crown this season.
Little, who played for the Tulsa 66ers and the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA D-League, is coming off a stint recently with the Anyang KGC in the Korean Basketball League, where he averaged 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 62 games.
TNT will have 2 imports for the season-ending conference after tapping Syrian sharpshooter Michel Madanly as well.
