A new UAAP ruling might allow them to gun for back-to-back championships with FEU, but Mac Belo and Russel Escoto said they are still considering options right now.
After playing for the Tamaraws the last 4 years, the big man duo, who now suit up for Phoenix in the PBA D-League, will get to play one more season for the Morayta squad after the UAAP elected to remove the 7-year eligibility window for collegiate athletes.
“Sa ngayon, pinagiisipan ko. Wala pang desisyon,” said Belo, who scored 25 points in Accelarators’ dismantling of Topstar ZC Mindanao Aguilas on Tuesday at the JCSGO Seed Dome in Cubao. “Basta, dito muna. Focus muna sa D-League.”
It was echoed by his frontcourt partner Escoto, but added something, “Di ko pa alam, di pa sure,” he said.
“Pero open naman ako sa possibility,” he continued. “Siguro kung may chance, malay mo bumalik kaming dalawa, lalaruin namin, idedefend namin yung crown, maglalaro kaming maayos ni Mac para matulungan ng team.”
Although recognizing that deciding not to return could be the chance for the new breed of Tamaraws to step up their game, Escoto feels they could bring instant veteran presence in their bid to defend the cage crown.
“Mas matutulungan pa namin sila para magimprove tapos malaki naman yung matutulong namin sa team na yun, kasi wala na silang beterano,” he added, noting that La Salle is the clear favorite heading to Season 79.
The Gilas Cadets recruits also shared nothing serious conversation has come into fruition, though they admitted the idea of returning has been brought up.
“Lagi kami naglolokohan (ni Russel). Wala pa kaming desisyon. Nasa amin yun,” stressed Belo.
Asked by FOX Sports when will be the tentative date for ‘The Decision.’
“Surprise, surprise na lang,” said Belo jokingly. — By Jason Mercene
