Will highly-touted wingman CJ Perez get reunited with former San Sebastian coach Topex Robinson soon?
A highly-placed source shared to FOX Sports on Thursday night that the 6-foot-2 Perez is seriously considering to reunite with Robinson at Lyceum if and when he fails to suit up for Ateneo in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tourney in September.
Perez, 22, who has now taken a two-year residency at Ateneo following his stunning transfer from San Sebastian in 2014, is reportedly one of the seven Blue Eagles, including former Rookie of the Year awardee Arvin Tolentino and guard Jerie Pingoy, who are in danger of missing the school’s required QPI mark according to an earlier report by Rappler.
That sorry development could force Perez to move out of the Blue Eagles’ camp and join forces anew with Robinson in the NCAA cage wars next year, giving the Pirates an instant go-to-guy known for his daredevil drives and relentless attacks in the lane during his Golden Stags’ stint.
Sought to comment about Perez, Robinson said he’s aware of his current situation at Ateneo but denied any knowledge of the rumored transfer to Lyceum.
But if Perez is willing to work under him anew, Robinson would gladly welcomed it. “The doors of Lyceum will always be open to CJ,” he said in an SMS message.
Perez played for two years with the Golden Stags and his breakout showing came in 2013 during the NCAA Season 89, averaging 17.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while leading San Sebastian to a Final Four finish.
Aside from Perez, Hubert Cani, a former National U high school star, has already bolted his way out of Ateneo and is taking a calculated approach on his next move.
