Gilas sharpshooter Jeff Chan remains upbeat on his recovery as he hopes to contribute in their upcoming tune-up games against country’s arch-rival and 2013 FIBA Asia and 2014 Asian Games tormentor Iran.
Still recuperating from a groin injury, Chan is eyeing for a revenge of sorts as the Gila 3.0 to which he was part of, failed to defeat Iran in as many Asian tournament meetings they had in 2013-14.
“Sana makaisa ako sa kanila,” said Chan to FOX Sports after their Thurday morning practice in the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.
In his return in the Gilas pool for the Olympic qualifier, Chan will enjoy playing alongside inside-outside scoring threat big man Andray Blatche, who was pivotal in helping the 2015 iteration to beat the Western Asian powerhouse.
“Iba naman yung capabilities ni Andray di ba, so I hope this time makaisa man lang ako,” he said.
But for now, Chan’s prime concern is to fast-track his recovery, which has suffered a mild blow after an intense defensive play in the practice.
“Nag-practice ako kanina pero parang na-pull ko nang kaunti kaya di ko natapos,” he shared.
“Actually kahapon, mas natapos ko yung practice, kanina lang medyo intense yung defense kaya napush ko siguro.”
Despite not being 100%, the Rain or Shine gunner admitted that his movement is more fluid now.
“Hopefully bukas ulit kasi ayokong i-force naman kasi parang pagaling na ako, so kung pipilitin ko baka tumagal yung recovery,” stressed Chan. – By Jason Mercene
