Troy Rosario tows Gilas Cadets to 24-pt drubbing of Malaysia

Gilas Cadets opened the SEABA Stankovic Cup with a bang drubbing Malaysia, 108-84, Sunday night at the Stadium 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jeth Troy Rosario, who was plucked from the men’s pool, spearheaded the Filipinos with a near-perfect game finishing with 19 pts on 8-of-9 shooting from the field including an emphatic slam in transition on top of 8 rebounds and a block.

The Gilas Cadet team slowly wiggled out from a close start increasing a 29-20 lead at the end of the first canto to a double digit spread all throughout.

The stars of UAAP champion FEU also had a solid debut in the tournament with Finals MVP Mac Belo chipping in 16 markers on 6-of-7 shooting along with 3 boards and 2 steals while Mike Tolomia dished out an all around game of 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.

Y. Wong topscored for Malaysia with 16 while while C. Ma added 15 for the Malaysian squad that trailed all game long.

Gilas Cadets will take on Singapore next on Tuesday.  – John Bryan Ulanday
