Davao native brings ‘positive change’ to UE

Change is coming from Davao.

University of the East is welcoming a positive change with the arrival of do-it-all Davao native.

New recruit Alvin Pasaol, a product of Holy Cross of Davao College, proves to be UE’s biggest revelation this summer in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup as he led the Red Warriors to a 2-1 win-loss record in their first 3 games.

Pasaol recently topscored for UE in their win against the Lyceum Pirates with another all-around outing for him. He collected 17 points on a solid 6-of-9 shooting while adding 7 rebounds (3 offensive), 3 assists, 2 steals and a block.

But head coach Derrick Pumaren was not surprised at all in Pasaol’s impressive outings so far, saying he can be more lethal once he grasps the entire system.

“I know he can score and take the outside shots. He is very consistent scoring-wise, kala mo medyo mataba, medyo mabagal pero he’s out there all the time,” said Pumaren, adding that Pasaol also hustles for offensive boards.

Pumaren discovered his new gem during his visit in Davao and quickly offered him a shot to play for the Red Warriors beating other Manila-based schools.

“Maraming kumukuhang teams sa akin dati pero si Manong (Pumaren) malaki tiwala ko sa kanya, sobrang laki and binibigyan niya rin ako ng tiwala na ganun kalaki,” shared Pasaol, who was also courted by NCAA teams Letran and Arellano University.

After serving his 1-year residency following his transfer to the Recto-based school, the 21-year-old cager is pumped up to play for the Red Warriors when the UAAP season kicks off in September.

When asked on what he expects in his UAAP debut, Pasaol has bold prediction.

“Mag fi-final four kami this season, sa binibigay na trust sa amin ni Manong and sa defense namin,” he said.
