Chito Victolero steps down for ‘health reasons’ claims Mahindra team manager

Mahindra team manager Eric Pineda said assistant coach Chito Victolero has resigned on Wednesday, citing “health reasons”.

“Yes, nag-resign na siya, it’s more of health reasons kasi umiinom siya ng pampababa ng blood pressure,” Pineda told FOX Sports on Thursday.

Pineda said they intend to elevate one of their existing assistants, who could help playing coach Manny Pacquiao as they prepare for the season-ending Governors Cup.

But the Mahindra team executive isn’t discounting tapping someone from the outside should the need arise.

“Magu-usap kami ngayon with the other members of the coaching staff, pero kung sino man ang papalit, we’ll see.

We’re still trying to study other options,” explained Pineda.

While Pacquiao is listed as the team’s official head coach, Victolero called the shots for the team since last season’s Commissioner’s Cup.

A former PBA player who saw action for Sta. Lucia and Air21, Victolero became Pacquiao’s lead assistant when Glen Capacio was removed before the start of the Commissioner’s Cup last season.

Victolero compiled a 15-29 win-loss record while calling the shots for the Enforcers.
