Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas official Butch Antonio said he’s unsure when Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin will be returning as he’s set to leave this weekend to attend to his sick brother in Jacksonville, Florida.
“May family emergency siya (Baldwin), but I don’t know and I’m not sure (when he’ll be back),” Antonio told FOX Sports on Friday.
Baldwin actually posted a short message on his official Twitter account @iHob1111, asking for prayers for his brother Terry.
“Heading to Florida to be by my brother’s side. Prayers please #ForTerry,” Baldwin said in his post.
The amiable SBP team executive said Baldwin will leave either late Friday or on Saturday.
Gilas assistants Jong Uichico, Alex Compton and Josh Reyes are expected to run the Monday-only practice at the Moro Lorenzo gym inside the Ateneo campus.
Gilas is expected to go full blast in its preparation for the Manila leg of the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament once the PBA Commissioner’s Cup ends in the third week of May.
The national squad wis bracketed alongside world no. 5 France and Oceania runner-up New Zealand in the qualifying tournament set to start this July 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena. – By Richard Dy
