Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy rues losing ‘won’ game v Phoenix

Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy couldn’t hide his disappointment after the Elite let go of a won game against Phoenix Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Young gunner Carlo Lastimosa had a chance to seal a potential win for the Elite after knocking down a tough 3-point shot plus a foul from Phoenix guard RR Garcia with just 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation.

Lastimosa had to be helped up by his teammates after knotting the score at 109-109 with a chance to seal the win with his bonus foul shot.

The former St. Benilde shooter though took a few seconds to shake his right arm after apparently hurting it as he fell on the floor.

Sy, the outspoken Blackwater big boss, said he should have just intervened and asked backup guard Raphy Reyes to replace Lastimosa, since the latter appeared to have hurt his shooting hand.

“Not happy at all because it’s a won game but we lost it,” Sy told FOX Sports on Thursday, who left the Big Dome in disgust after Blackwater fell short in overtime, 124-120.

The 5-foot-11 Lastimosa missed his bonus foul shot, his attempt hitting the side of the iron and the game eventually going to overtime.

Asked if he has already talked to Lastimosa or Blackwater coach Leo Isaac after the loss that cost the Elite their playoff hopes in the Commissioner’s Cup, Sy replied: “It will be a lengthy discussion because we’ll play basketball with the coaches tomorrow (Friday) and then talk it over dinner.”

Lastimosa, whom the team incidentally acquired in a trade with Barako Bull (now Phoenix), dropped 26 of his game-high 28 points in the 2nd half in a losing effort.
