Mahindra, Blackwater swap bigs

Expansion squads Blackwater and Mahindra swapped big men on Friday night in a bid to enhance their playoff chances in the Oppo-PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Enforcers shipped sophomore big man Kyle Pascual to the Elite in exchange for the shot-blocking center Jason Ballesteros.

“Yes, the trade is already confirmed. I actually signed the trade papers during the game Friday,” Blackwater team manager Johnson Martinez told FOX Sports on Saturday.

The trade papers were already forwarded to the desk of the Office of the Commissioner with league chieftain Chito Narvasa, currently in Panabo City, Davao for the Ginebra-Phoenix out-of-town game, expected to approve the deal.

Johnson said the 6-foot-5 Pascual is a big man, who can shoot from mid-range.

Selected in the 2nd round by Mahindra in 2014, Pascual will be reunited with Blackwater rookie Art Dela Cruz, since both played for San Beda in college.

“Palagay ko win-win na yung trade for both teams. Tapos may chemistry na naman si Kyle with Art Dela Cruz,” he added.

Meantime, Ballesteros will add ceiling and veteran inside presence for Mahindra, which will try to snap a 3-game losing skid on Monday against Alaska.

The 6-foot-6 Ballesteros played his last game in a Blackwater uniform on Friday during the Elite’s 106-83 defeat to Meralco.

He registered just 1 rebound in 13 minutes of action.

Blackwater currently is at 10th spot with its 3-5 record, while Mahindra shares 3-4 cards with Tropang TNT and NLEX at the moment. – By Richard Dy
