From Mighty to Almighty? Kevin Ferrer eyed to join Kiefer Ravena in PCBL

Will Gilas cadet Kevin Ferrer take his talents to the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League?

A team insider disclosed to FOX Sports that powerhouse Mighty Sports is in talks with the former University of Santo Tomas star, hoping to add another potent weapon in its bid to go all the way in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup.

A two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, the 6-foot-4 Ferrer, 22, is currently seeing action in the PBA Developmental League with University of the Philippines-QRS/Jam Liner.

The No. 4 Maroons, armed with twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals, absorbed a close 68-66 setback dealt by No. 5 Tanduay last week, paving the way for their rubber-match on Thursday, with the winner earning the right to face Foundations Cup champion and top-ranked CafeFrance in a best-of-three semifinals showdown.

Once he finishes his commitments with UP-QRS/Jam Liner, Ferrer could suit up with Mighty Sports, which handled Euro-Med with ease on Sunday night 81-63 to stretch its winning streak to three at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

“Kinakausap na rin ng Mighty si Kevin kaya mas lalakas ang team nila dito sa PCBL,” said the insider, his eyes glowing on the prospects of seeing Ferrer team up with fellow Gilas cadet Kiefer Ravena, Perpetual Help center Bright Akhuetie, former RP Youth standout Gab Banal and former Arellano U gunner Adrian Celada.

A one-time UAAP juniors MVP, Ferrer surpassed expectations when powered the Growling Tigers to the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball finals last year but they came up short against eventual champion, the Far Eastern U Tamaraws, in an epic three-game battle. – By Jerome Lagunzad
