Alaska star Calvin Abueva fails to ace acting debut, hopes for another shot

It took some time before Calvin Abueva found his groove on Friday night, a day after he made his acting debut in the ABS-CBN teleserye Dolce Amore starring Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano.

Abueva shook off a foul-plagued, scoreless first half to contribute 8 points, all coming in the pivotal third quarter, on top of 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals to help the Aces score their third straight win – a 105-89 victory against slumping Phoenix Fuel Masters.

Abueva shared he was hesitant to take the acting offer but eventually gave in to his wife’s prodding.

“Ang nag-offer ‘yung wife ko. Gusto ko ngang tanggihan para magpahinga pero sayang din kasi eh,” Abueva told reporters.

In the episode aired last Thursday night, Abueva was seen playing basketball together with Mahindra point guard Paulo Hubalde.

“Medyo (nahirapan). Hanggang take 10 kasi mahirap din ‘yung ginawa namin like yung alley-oop. Mahirap din eh. Akala mo madali lang pero hindi rin pala,” said Abueva of that scene that took them 30 minutes to shoot.

Abueva plays one of the pals of Tenten (Gil’s character).

In his cameo role, Abueva joked that Sese (Zoberano’s character) is the kind of a “pabebe” girl. In response, Sese grabbed the ball off Abueva’s hands then kicked it straight to the basket that stunned the crowd and especially Tenten.

Asked if Abueva will take another acting job after Dolce Amore, he retorted back: “Kung may kukuha ulit (sa akin).” – By AA
