Calvin Warner stays as interim import for GlobalPort says team manager

GlobalPort team manager Bonnie Tan denied rumors circulating on Facebook that the Batang Pier are bringing in former Sacramento Kings forward Royce White to replace undersized import Calvin Warner.

Tan though admitted that the comebacking Warner was taken in at an interim capacity since replacing wide-bodied import Brian Williams over a week ago.

“Wala kaming changes sa team, though alam naman natin na interim capacity lang muna si Calvin Warner,” Tan told FOX Sports on Thursday.

The soft-spoken GlobalPort official said Warner was asked to come in and fill the spot vacated for the ineffective Williams.

“Talagang ni-request lang muna namin si Calvin since available siya,” he added.

The Batang Pier dropped in a tie for 7th to 9th spots with defending champion Tropang TNT and Blackwater Elite after losing their last 2 games to San Miguel Beer (120-109) and Meralco Bolts (96-88).

The 35-year-old Warner is averaging solid numbers of 22.3 points, 19.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 3 games for GlobalPort.

Meantime, Royce, listed at 6-8, has been out of the NBA since a brief 3-game stint with the Kings in 2014.

Selected 16th overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2012 NBA Draft, the 24-year-old White spent more time toiling in the NBA D-League, first with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2013 and the Reno Bighorns the following year. – By Richard Dy
