NBA Wrap: 76ers’ woes continue against Hornets

The Philadelphia 76ers suffered their 10th consecutive loss when the Charlotte Hornets recorded an emphatic 119-99 victory over them on Wednesday evening at the Wells Fargo Center.

The stars of the show for the Charlotte outfit were Kemba Walker and Cody Zeller who scored 30 points and 15 points respectively.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Nikola Vucevic scored 24 points and rookie Mario Hezonja added a career-high 21 as the Orlando Magic beat the Chicago Bulls 102-89.

Isaiah Thomas scored 30 points to lead the Boston Celtics to a 116-93 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. There were also valuable contributions on the night from Jared Sullinger and Marcus Smart who both scored 15 points and claimed 11 rebounds.

Kawhi Leonard scored 27 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 23 as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Detroit Pistons 97-81 to clinch their 19th straight playoff berth.

Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan combined for 63 points for the Toronto Raptors against the Utah Jazz as the former were made to work hard for a 104-94 victory.The Raptors have now won seven of their last 10, furthering themselves as a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference.

The Houston Rockets set an NBA record by making just 8.8 per cent of their 34 three-point attempts against the New Orleans Pelicans. However, despite that, they were still able to grind out an ugly 100-95 victory.

A clutch performance from the Memphis Grizzlies’ Mike Conley saw him end the evening with a game-high 24 points on nine of 12 shooting as he led his side to a gutsy 104-98 triumph over the Sacramento Kings. Conley scored 10 in the final frame, hitting all four of his shots in the period, including a pair of three-pointers.

Paul George’s 15 points, coupled with double-digit returns from every starter, was enough to get the Indiana Pacers over the line against the Milwaukee Bucks by a score line of 104-99.

The Washington Wizards are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot after Wednesday’s 104-98 road victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wizards have won four in a row and seven of nine since the All-Star break.

Kobe Bryant’s final game at the Denver Nuggets’ Pepsi Center never ended well. D.J. Augustin scored 26 points as the Nuggets stormed to a convincing 117-107 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant finished with five points and didn’t play in the second half because of a sore right shoulder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder took the court hours after the passing of part-owner Aubrey McClendon and squandered a 22-point lead in a 103-98 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Chris Paul had 21 points and 13 assists for Los Angeles and DeAndre Jordan had 20 points and 18 rebounds.
