Othyus Jeffers ready for Manila Clasico

One day off is enough for Barangay Ginebra’s do-it-all import Othyus Jeffers to get back into work mode.

Jeffers, the shortest import at 6-2 & 3/4 in the Oppo-PBA Commissioner’s Cup, said he’s ready to go to war against Ginebra’s long-time PBA rival Star Hotshots this Sunday.

“They (Kings teammates) been sharing it to me the past few days and I can’t wait to experience it this Sunday,” Jeffers told FOX Sports on Wednesday.

Jeffers, who battled through a painful back during Ginebra’s 103-92 win over Rain or Shine on Sunday, declined to talk about the condition of his back.

“I don’t know (back condition) but it don’t matter. I’m gotta go out there and play and it’s no big deal,” he said.

The former Robert Morris University standout though, appeared to move without pain at all in practice.

And for Ginebra coach Tim Cone, that is a good indication that Jeffers will be ready for Sunday’s showdown with Star.

“So far he’s okay. He went to full practice today. He’s not hampered and he seems okay,” Cone said.

Jeffers was a monster off the boards against the Elasto Painters after hauling down 20 rebounds, to go along with a game-high 38 points, helping the Kings snap a 2-game losing skid to start the conference. – By Richard Dy
