Romeo wins duel vs Castro as Batang Pier win 2nd in a row

GlobalPort Batang Pier weathered the import-less Tropang TNT’s fourth quarter storm, 108-101, Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Terrence Romeo won the duel between the Gilas backcourt finishing with 33 points to Jayson Castro’s 25.

Romeo hit a crucial three-pointer that restored order for the Batang Pier, giving them a 103-95 buffer after the Tropang TNT’s furious run that nearly wiped out a 20-point deficit, 72-92.

After a slow start with only four points in the opening quarter where the Batang Pier trailed by one, 18-19, Romeo waxed hot carrying his team to sit on a 9-point cushion at the half that ballooned to as big as 21.

Returning import Calvin Warner shrugged off jet lag from a whirlwind trip from the Dominican Republic, arriving on Friday morning, to finish with 21 rebounds, 11 points and 2 shot blocks.

Stanley Pringle added 14 while rookie Roi Sumang came off the bench to fire a career-high 11 points.

Mo Tautuaa tried to fill up the hole in the middle for the Tropang TNT, who also missed Kelly Williams with back spasms, coming up with 21 points and 7 rebounds.
