Results from X-ray and CT scan showed no signs of damage on Blackwater slotman JP Erram’s head following a scary fall during the Elite’s 102-108 loss to defending champion Tropang TNT at the opening night of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-foot-7 Erram, Blackwater’s vastly improved big man, knocked his head hard on the floor after blocking Ranidel de Ocampo’s driving layup during the midway point of the first quarter.
Erram got his foot entangled with Blackwater import MJ Rhett from there as he landed awkwardly on the floor.
The former Ateneo big man complained of dizziness and was eventually rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center in E. Rodriguez, Quezon City to undergo X-ray and CT scan.
“Wala naman pong damage sa head, pero yung sakit ng ulo ko hanggang ngayon di pa nawawala. Medyo nahihilo pa ako kapag naglalakad ako,” Erram told FOX Sports on Thursday.
The 26-year-old Blackwater slotman said he was advised by the doctors to rest for a few days while his condition is being observed by attending physical Dr. Michael Gan.
“Nag-pain reliever muna ako ngayon saka sabi ng doctor magpahinga daw muna ako kasi parang nayanig yung ulo ko after that saka nanginig yung katawan ko,” explained Erram.
Blackwater team manager Johnson Martines heaved a sigh of relief upon getting the results from Erram’s tests, which yielded negative from any serious injury.
“We’re happy dahil wala siyang injury sa skull,” said Martines.
“Nakatutok na yung doctors ng Healthway sa kanya and by tmorrow (Friday), he’ll have another checkup lang,” Martines added.
Blackwater, which drew a new PBA career-high 39 points from Carlo Lastimosa, failed to beat an undermanned Tropang TNT side that didn’t have suspended import Ivan Johnson and rookie big man Troy Rosario, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury.
The Elite will try to bounce back this Sunday when they go up against the Mahindra Enforcers at 3 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. – By Richard Dy
