Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao and center Beau Belga were both P20,000 following two incidents during the first match of their PBA Philippine Cup semi-final against San Miguel Beer on Tuesday.
In the first incident, Guiao was blown up for a technical foul after he made contact with San Miguel guard Chris Ross during a throw-in in the third quarter of the match.
Belga, meanwhile, was also whistled for a technical foul after he came to the aid of Guiao during the incident with Ross.
PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa told Guiao that his actions were found to be unsportsmanlike by the Commissioner's Office and therefore he deserved to be reprimanded.
The fine was imposed on Ross since the PBA rules prohibits any player seated on the bench from leaving his position while a commotion is taking place.
"The act of physically contacting an opponent is considered under the rules as grave unsportsmanlike gesture that should have merited an ejection," the PBA said in a letter to Guiao.
Meanwhile, Rain or Shine players Jericho Cruz and Raymond Almazan as well as San Miguel’s Yancy de Ocampo and Ross were fined a total of P5,800 for other incidents during the match, which San Miguel won 109-105.
The second game in the best-of-seven series takes place on Thursday.
