Yankees edge ahead in Subway Series

The New York Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the ‘Subway Series’ as they beat city rivals the Mets 9-5 in a heated MLB contest on Wednesday night.

Mark Teixeira was in on the action, as after hitting a three-run homer in the second inning, he was later struck by a wayward pitch that caused both benches to gather on the field after a fiery exchange.

Edwin Jackson was the star for the San Diego Padres as they routed the Milwaukee Brewers 12-3.

Jackson pitched seven scoreless innings and registered an RBI double while Jabari Blash, Yangervis Solarte and Ryan Braun hit homers.

The Chicago Cubs scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins, the Atlanta Braves scored in six of their eight innings to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4 and reigning World Series champions the Kansas City Royals were given a 12-0 walloping by the Tampa Bay Royals.

The Washington Nationals again put the Arizona Diamondbacks to the sword with an 8-3 win, the Minnesota Twins were comfortable 13-5 winners over the Cleveland Indians while the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 3-2.

The St Louis Cardinals edged out the Cincinatti Reds 5-4, the Detroit Tigers scored in the eighth inning to seal a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays were 3-1 victors over the Houston Astros.

It needed 12 innings to separate the San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies, who came out on top 5-4, the Seattle Mariners registered a 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox, a dominant performance saw the Colorado Rookies saunter to a 12-2 success against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics lost 8-6 to the Los Angeles Angels.
