Nationals cruise to win over Reds

Washington’s MLB clash with Cincinnati went to form on Thursday night, with the Nationals cruising to a 13-4 victory to make it five wins in a row.

The Chicago Cubs experienced a rare defeat in their series opener against the New York Mets, for whom a three-run seventh inning proved decisive in their 4-3 victory.

Kenta Maeda scattered three hits and surrendered a lone run in six innings of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 8-1 win over the Brewers which gave the visitors a second series victory over Milwaukee in as many weeks.

The Baltimore Orioles’ seven-game winning streak is over after a 5-3 defeat by the Seattle Mariners while the San Francisco Giants returned to form in style with a 12-6 triumph over the Oakland Athletics.

The Cleveland Indians saw off the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1, stretching their hot streak to 13 games, and the Kansas City Royals downed the St Louis Cardinals 4-2.

The Atlanta Braves overcame the Miami Marlins – and a 68-minute delay for rain – to win 8-5, while tighter games saw the Chicago White Sox see off the Minnesota Twins 6-5 and the New York Yankees edge the Texas Rangers 2-1.
