Marlins beaten, Tigers mauled

Wilson Contreras had three RBIs and a home run and Kris Bryant also went deep as the Chicago Cubs ended a four-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Miami Marlins.

Both homered in a four-run first inning for the Cubs but the Marlins tied it up with Justin Bour’s grand slam before Contreras’ RBI single in the seventh won the game.

Matt Joyce was a triple short of the cycle and Jung Ho Kang also homered in the Pittsburgh Pirates‘ 8-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The New York Yankees took advantage of Minnesota Twins errors with three unearned runs in a 5-3 victory, while the Cleveland Indians picked up a seventh straight win in seeing off the Detroit Tigers 7-4.

Todd Frazier’s go-ahead single in the seventh inning gave the Chicago White Sox a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays and Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ two-run homer in the seventh earned the Milwaukee Brewers a 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals.

George Springer hit a triple and a grand slam – and was just a double short of the cycle – to lead the Houston Astros to a 13-4 win over the Kansas City Royals.
