Rangers sink Blue Jays in feisty clash

Ian Desmond hit a three-run homer to give the Texas Rangers a 7-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in a bad-tempered MLB game in Arlington.

The game was overshadowed by a fracas during the eighth inning that started when Jose Bautista was hit by a pitch from Matt Bush. The melee erupted when Bautista slid hard into second base and made contact with Rougned Odor, who responded by punching the Blue Jays player.

That resulting in the benches emptying and, after calm was restored, three players plus Rangers bench coach Steve Buechele were ejected. Toronto retaliated when Jesse Chavez hit Prince Fielder with a pitch in the bottom half of the inning.

Carlos Beltran hit the 400th home run of his career to help the New York Yankees to a 7-5 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Kendrys Morales slugged a two-run walk-off homer to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 4-2 triumph over the Atlanta Braves.

Danny Valencia went deep three times as the Oakland Athletics beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6, while the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1.

Hunter Pence scored on a single from Brandon Crawford late in the game to edge the San Francisco Giants to a 2-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2.

Chris Carter and Jonathan Lucroy went deep in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres while the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1.

Jose Fernandez struck out 11 as the Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 5-1 and Xander Bogaerts hit a three-run homer in the Boston Red Sox’s 10-9 win over the Houston Astros.

Ryan Raburn’s pinch-hit homer in the seventh earned the Colorado Rockies a 4-3 win over the New York Mets and Hector Santiago threw eight shutout innings in the Los Angeles Angels’ 3-0 win over the Seattle Mariners.

The Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 and the Cincinnati Reds got the better of the Philadelphia Phillies 9-4.
