Texas Rangers tame in-form Tigers

The Texas Rangers saw off the American League’s form team, the Detroit Tigers, in their MLB clash on Friday night.

Both teams were seeking to snap a three-game skid – and the Rangers came out on top at Comerica Park as Cole Hamels shut them down in a 5-1 success.

Jung Ho Kang made an immediate impression on his return from a long-term knee injury, starring for the Pittsburgh Pirates in their 4-2 defeat of the St Louis Cardinals.

The Chicago Cubs continue to go from strength to strength, with Ben Zobrist’s three-run shot in the fifth inning helping them to an 8-6 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Aaron Hicks’ go-ahead blast off Rick Porcello in the seventh inning lifted the New York Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox, while Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton connected on a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning of the match against the Philadelphia Phillies, setting up a 6-4 success.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 and the Tampa Bay Rays saw off the Los Angeles Angels by the same scoreline.

The Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 7-1, the Cincinnati Reds downed the struggling Milwaukee Brewers 5-1, while the Seattle Mariners lost 6-3 to the Houston Astros.

The Arizona Diamondbacks were too strong for the Atlanta Braves, winning 7-2, the Chicago White Sox brushed aside the Minnesota Twins 10-4 and the San Francisco Giants downed the Colorado Rockies 6-4.

The San Diego Padres saw off the New York Mets 2-0, while Oakland Athletics‘ game with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards was postponed due to rain and will now be made up as part of a double-header on Saturday.
