Orioles streak continues; Braves beaten again

The Baltimore Orioles’ hot streak continued as a stellar showing from JJ Hardy guided them to a seventh straight season win.

Hardy hit two two-run homers while Mark Trumbo added another dinger – his second in as many days – as the Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 9-5.

David Ortiz’s third home run of the season was in vain for Boston, who have lost both of their games at Fenway Park so far this term.

While Baltimore are 7-0, the Atlanta Braves are 0-7 after they were beaten 2-1 by Washington.

Bryce Harper’s two-run double in the eighth inning secured the Nationals a 12th straight home win against Atlanta.

There were mixed emotions in New York as the Mets suffered a fourth successive home defeat – losing 2-1 to the Miami Marlins – but the Yankees overcame the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2.

Pitcher Jeff Samardzija secured his first Giants win as San Francisco beat the Colorado Rockies 7-2 and a three-run homer from Lorenzo Cain in the first was enough for the Kansas City Royals to beat the Houston Astros 3-2.

Justin Upton hit a homer in the Detroit Tigers’ 8-2 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates while Paul Goldschmidt’s home run led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 success against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Logan Forsythe and Evan Longoria both hit homers in the eighth as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 while Odubel Herrera’s RBI triple helped the Philadelphia Phillies see off the San Diego Padres 3-0.

The Seattle Mariners have started the season with five straight home losses, their latest setback coming with an 8-0 defeat against the Texas Rangers.
