Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver will travel to Phoenix to see a spine specialist on Monday, according to manager Mike Scioscia.
Weaver has been diagnosed with mild degenerative changes in his cervical spine and has been ruled out of Monday’s spring training game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Scioscia revealed that Weaver has already spoken to team doctors after complaining of stiffness in his neck and will now visit the specialist before a decision on what needs to be done is taken.
“We’ll see,” Scioscia told reporters. “We’re going to meet whatever needs Jered has right now.”
Weaver, who is a three-time All-Star, went 7-12 with a 4.64 ERA in last year’s MLB season.
