Yadier Molina is hoping to represent the St Louis Cardinals on Opening Day as he is recovering well after undergoing thumb surgery.
Molina sustained a torn ligament in his left thumb when trying to tag Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo on September 20.
However, after participating in his first catching drills on Friday, the 33-year-old is growing more confident of his chances of featuring for the Cardinals when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 3.
“It feels good,” Molina told reporters. “It’s getting stronger. That’s what I want. It’s still too soon to say, but that’s what I want. That’s my goal.”
The eight-time All Star is also set to take part in catching drills with the pitching machine on Saturday should he not experience any issues with his thumb.
