Chen Long eyes Lin Dan’s record

Lin Dan is widely considered the greatest player in the men's singles game and Long, who defeated Dan in the semi-finals this weekend, says he would like to reach Dan's level.

Long was quoted by the Straits Times after his 15-21, 21-17, 21-15 final victory over Jan O Jorgensen in Birmingham.

The world number one said: "Jorgensen is tough but Lin Dan is right up there. Lin Dan is on the highest level.

"I want to catch Lin Dan's record, but for the moment physical condition is the most important thing. I need to keep healthy and not get injured."

Long added: "I believed that I could come back so I kept calm and didn't rush the points. I played tighter and didn't let in distractions.

"I am very happy to win this trophy," Chen said. "But if it were the Olympics or world championships, I would be much happier. Of course, this win will boost my confidence in the buildup to the Rio Olympics."
