Saina Nehwal advanced to the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open Superseries Premier event at the Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
The new world number one started off in sublime form in her quarter-final match against China's Sun Yu, and won the first game 21-11 having raced into a 12-4 lead.
"She is tall, she can play a lot of strokes, anyway I felt tired in the second set. I should have finished it off in the second set because I had 14 all in second set," Saina told reporters after the match.
"The crowd was very good, I enjoyed it, very good and supportive, good to see."
In the semi-finals she will take on reigning Olympic champion Li Xuerui, who beat former world champion Yihan Wang 14-21, 21-15, 21-12 in 55 minutes.
In the other semi-final, China's Shixian Wang will take on Spaniard Carolina Marin, after the former beat Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 15-21, 22-20 and the latter outclassing Ngang Yi Cheung 21-12, 21-9..
