Kidambi through to Aussie Open semis

India's Kidambi Srikanth defeated countryman Sai Praneeth to reach the semi-finals of the Crown Group Australian Open at Sydney's Olympic Park Sports Centre on Friday. 

In a match lasting 43 minutes, Kidambi was a straight game's winner when beating Sai 25-23, 21-17.

The unseeded Kidambi has a semi-final clash next against China's fourth seed Shi Yuqi after he cruised past Denmark's Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus 21-17, 21-12 in 40 minutes.

In more men's singles action, in an all-China clash Chen Long beat Lin Dan 21-16, 12-21, 23-21 in a match lasting 7minuteses and Lee Hyun Il of the Korea Republic downed China's eighth seed Tian Houwei 17-21, 21-15, 21-18. 

In some women's singles quarter-final action, Chinese Taipei's top-seeded Tai Tzu Ying needed over5 an hour to get past fifth seed Pusarla V. Sindhu 10-21, 22-20, 21-16 and third seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan beat China's eighth seed Chen Yufei 21-15 21-14.

In a match lasting 78 minutes, sixth seed Sun Yu of China beat India's Saina Nehwal 21-17, 10-21, 21-17, and on an all Japan clash Nozomi Okuhara saw off countryman Sayaka Takahashi 21-12, 23-21.
