The ranking drop is due to him not playing while serving a backdated eight-month suspension for a doping violation.
According to the rankings released on Thursday in BWF's official website, www.bwfbadminton.org, the ace shuttler now has 27,631 points, all collected before testing positive for dexamethasone at the World Championship in Copenhagen in August 2014.
The points come from the Indonesian Open, Japan Open, and Thomas Cup before he was suspended in August 2014. The suspension ends on April 30.
Now that he is able to play again Chong Wei is expected to play at the Sudirman Cup in Dongguan, China from May 10-17 and then the SEA Games in Singapore in June.
