Hometown top seed Nguyen Tien Minh and Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong won the men’s and women’s singles titles at badminton’s Vietnam International Challenge in Hanoi on Sunday.
In the men's final lasting 45 minutes, Vietnam's Nguyen beat Thai second seed Khosit Phetpradab 21-14, 21-17.
And in the women's final, there was an upset, when second-seeded Pornpawee downed Vietnam's top seed Vu Thi Trang 21-16, 21-17 in a match that lasted 50 minutes.
There was another slight upset in the men's doubles final when Indian sixth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got past Thai fifth seeds Trawut Potieng and Nanthakarn Yordphaisong 17-21, 21-9, 21-15 in 50 minutes.
The women's doubles final was won by Japan's Erina Honda and Nozomi Shimizu after beating Malaysia's Joyce Choong and Tee Jing Yi 21-14, 19-21, 21-14 in a final that lasted 52 minutes
There was a big upset in the mixed doubles final when China's unseeded Shi Longfei and Tang Pingyang needed 57 minutes to down Indonesia's second seeds Irfan Fadhilan and Weni Anggraini 21-16, 19-21, 21-15.
