Top seeds and home favourites Busanan Ongbamrungphan and Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk are safely through to the second round of the Thailand Masters in Bangkok.
Busanan was the first to progress on the day as she defeated unseeded Japanese player Natsuki Nidaira 21-16, 21-17 in a match that lasted 49 minutes.
The Thai shuttler pulled away late in the first game and then fought off a resurgent Nidaira late in the second to make sure of victory.
Tanongsak also advanced later in the day as he beat fellow Thai Ruttanapal Oupthong 21-16, 21-18 to set up a clash with Indonesian qualifier Androw Yunanto.
Despite the reasonably tight scoreline, Tanongsak was never in any really danger in the match. He led both games from start to finish, and ultimately won 42 points to 34 to wrap up the result in just over 30 minutes.
Others to advance in the men’s draw included second seed Huang Yuxiang of China and Indonesian third and fourth seeds Tommy Sugiarto and Jonatan Christie.
Joining Busanan in the second round of the women’s draw are fellow Thai Nitchaon Jindapol, the second seed, as well as third seed Chen Yufei and fourth seed Aya Ohori.
The action at the Thailand Masters continues throughout the week.
